ABOUT US

The development of SHCQ into what you see today has a long and interesting history. First started in Queensland in the early 90's by a dedicated group of show horse enthusiasts, wanting a more cohesive approach to showing, to promote and encourage new exhibitors & streamline the competitions already in place.
The first SHCQ meeting was held at Mansfield High School attracting approx. 50 enthusiasts. From there SHCQ has gone from strength to strength, now boasting a membership base of some 350 plus members from all across Queensland.
The initial dedicated group of QLD enthusiasts can also be credited with introducing a measuring scheme to QLD & making the initial steps to introducing "three ring circus" programs that we all benefit from today, all across QLD. Without their initial dedication & determination we would not be enjoying the benefits of having our own states Show Horse Council which offers us all as members the opportunity to compete at National level. SHCQ Inc is one of 8 interstate constitutional affiliates, our committee is made up 12 dedicated volunteers who work tirelessly to promote and support Show Horse Council Queensland members.
We run 3 major shows each year and are proud to have one of the largest show horse events in QLD. Two Grand National Qualifying Shows & a Rising Star event for our up and coming newcomer horses. QLD Rising Star has been an exceptional launch pad for many of our newcomer young horses each year & now with the introduction of Intermediate, it provides members both in QLD & interstate with a wider range of classes. QLD Country Hack Championships (GN Qualifier) in Maryborough now hosts over 45 classes and attracts in excess of 220 entries. Our largest event for the year SHCQ HOTY (GN Qualifier) at QSEC Caboolture, now hosting a Gala Night of events with over 70 classes held over three days. These prestigious Granf National qualifying events gives our open horse & rider class Champion & Runner Up members the oppurtunity to attend and compete at our Grand Nationals held in Sydney each year.
SHCQ run a number of measuring days each year with our qualified measurers being in attendance at all SHCQ events. The SHCQ committee run a Facebook page as well as a group to keep members informed of pre-event activities, event changes, sponsors and to provide a forum for members to use to contact each other and raise discussions on issues within the equestrian community.
The running and preparation involved in staging these events take many hours of hard work and dedication from our committee & also from our wonderful sponsors, whom without we would struggle to run such prestigious and memorable shows.
